The Qualicoat standard for architectural powder coat finishes has been recognised by the ‘National Building Standard’ and is being recommended to all specifiers. NBS specification Z31, clause 240, recommends that architectural powder coating is to be applied by a recognised applicator who is a member of the Qualicoat UK & Ireland quality assurance scheme or one of many Qualicoat registered powder coaters across Europe.
Commonplace across Europe since 1986 and now a well known powder coating quality standard, the UK & Ireland’s users and specifiers are now adopting the Qualicoat assurance scheme, as it not only offers an exceptional quality finish, but it is also independently tested by Bodycote. Qualicoat members agree to pre-treat and apply powder coatings to a minimum standard using a wide range of approved material from approved manufacturers. The Qualicoat assurance scheme meets and exceeds the latest British Standard for architectural powder coatings, BS EN 12206-1:2004.
The latest Qualicoat standard documentation is freely available from the European website, www.qualicoat.net and is in its 11th edition. The standard covers minimum requirements for such items as test methods, specification of equipment, approval procedures and specifications for in-house control of the finishes. Updates to the standard are often being issued and are also freely available on the website.
